EC Medium, Modified is used with the addition of novobiocin for the pre-enrichment of E. coli 0157:H7. The modification within this medium is a reduction of Bile Salts #3 in relation to the standard EC Medium developed by Hajna and Perryl. It remains a buffered lactose broth containing bile salts to inihibit gram-positive bacteria and spore forming microorganisms but also contains novobiocin which is found to be beneficial in the enrichment and detection of E. coli 0157:H7.
